February 14th- the day set aside as a reminder and celebration of how much we love someone and how much we are loved right? This can be wonderful if you find yourself in a loving and meaningful relationship with either a life partner or close friends and family. However, what about all those who are not so fortunate? How does this day make them feel?
I have personally always said I would rather those who love me told me so and acted as such throughout the year and didn’t feel the need for the business world to make them feel like they “had” to go out and buy the chocolate, flowers and dinner. Although, I certainly would be appreciative of this, we need to realize love goes so much deeper than all of this. Having someone bring you flowers along with a smile once a year does not change the fact that perhaps you are in an abusive relationship. Not having someone to go out to dinner with does not mean you should stay home if you wish to go out. Being alone, does not mean the same thing as being lonely.
Loving yourself is more important than all of this. In order to draw love into our lives we need to believe we are worthy and deserving of the love of others and open to receive it. That begins with us accepting who we are and loving ourselves. Yes, it is perfectly fine and is vital in our spiritual growth to embrace this wonderful light being that we are…warts, bumps and wrinkles…all of it! It is through the discovery that the Divine resides within each and every one of us that we can truly be grateful and accepting of who we are; a beautiful being of light having a human experience.
Don’t wait for someone to bring you flowers if that is what you want…go out and get the biggest bunch, the colour and kind you like and enjoy. Toast the love of your life…YOU…with your favourite beverage and eat that meal you like so well. Do yourself a favour, and don’t wait until Valentine’s Day to do so! Every day is a gift for you to embrace, enjoy, and live.
To help you get that loving feeling, why not make yourself comfortable and listen to today’s meditation, “Love Thyself”?
