Proud to be Canadian

Over the years and especially so far this year, there have been many events both worldwide and those close to home that have definitely caused one to ask themselves, “has the world gone completely mad?”  Out of all the negativity that floods the news channels, the internet and good old Face Book, comes the ray of light that brings the realization that Canada really is a wonderful place to live.

Yes, we have our struggles and there is always room to evolve and grow.  There is a tremendous amount of space still needed for healing, reconciliation and acceptance of our history both the good and the bad in order to move forward as a united people.  It isn’t about placing blame or shoving issues under the rug but rather taking responsibility and working as one to find favourable and meaningful solutions so everyone can be enriched and advanced as a nation.  This applies in all areas of our lives.

Each one of us carries the responsibility to be kind, compassionate and understanding.  When we let go of our fear of change as well as the fear of the unknown we are then able to get to know others, their situations and circumstances.  It is here we often discover we have far more in common than differences.  We can stand together and speak up against the bullies of the world, and often give voice to those who cannot.

I am proud to be Canadian, not just for the health insurance, fresh water lakes, the beautiful landscapes, freedom of speech and equality but more importantly to live where people do genuinely care for each other. Let’s keep working together to create a land of patience, kindness, compassion and understanding.
