Then he continued, “However, let me tell you what I have lost: anger, anxiety, depression, insecurity, and fear of old age and death.”
Most of us at some point in our lives, regardless of how often or under what circumstances, have uttered a prayer. Most likely we were asking for something or giving thanks for some blessing that had occurred in our life or that of a loved one. Many times we feel as though our prayers were not answered but in actual fact, if we were to think back we would need to ask ourselves, did I take time to listen for the answer?
Meditation is the practice of calming the mind and body so our spirit – also known as our Higher Self – can give thanks for our many blessings, allow ourselves to freely forgive others and ourselves, let go of any negative feelings and energies and stress, in order that we can open our hearts and minds to receive the love, compassion and positive energy we deserve.
By simply dedicating even 15 minutes a day to find this stillness you will soon reap the benefits of less stress, which in turn will reduce other physical problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease and bring in an inner sense of peace and focus.
You don’t need special equipment, you don’t need to be a certain age, and you can do it almost anywhere. Just find a place where you can sit or lay down comfortably, without interruption, close your eyes and begin. Guided meditations are helpful especially when you first begin as they assist you in being focused. There is even walking meditation for those moments you find yourself in nature (don’t close your eyes with this one!). The long term effects of meditation on your over all well-being are now being understood more fully by the medical and scientific communities and many physicians are encouraging their patients to use these techniques to lower their stress levels. Your Health and Meditation
It is proven that those people, including children, who have a meditation practice are healthier as their bodies are dealing with stress. Stress is the trigger for over 85% of Doctor visits, 95% of all viruses, trouble sleeping, eating disorders, lack of focus and inability to socially function. In our society we have long gone on the thought process that we wait until we are broken then try to put the pieces back together. Unfortunately, we only do a quick fix and glue job and do not take the time to find out what caused the dis-ease in the first place. How many pills do we pop into our bodies trusting because they are prescribed they are going to “cure” all our issues without even considering the side affects? How many people use smoking or nightcaps and cocktails as a way to calm down and relax at the end of the day when in actual fact these things only cause more physical stress on the body? When we do this, we teach our children to do the same. It is not a wonder that all too often they turn to narcotics and alcohol substances to find relief from stress…they are following the adult example.
Children and Meditation
More and more children are being medicated when often (depending on the condition) a change in diet, exercise and a daily meditation practice would create better well-being. Children rely on their parents for this guidance and they grow up following the parent’s life style. Take a look at how you treat your own body, mind and spirit. Now, look for ways to better your families lifestyle. Take small steps but do find ways to work it in and soon you will see the benefits in everyone’s health and over all well-being.
