Celebrating International Women's Day
This year on March 7th, 11am – 5:30pm, there will be another full house of vendors, practitioners, two guest speakers, and of course, the evening will end with myself leading everyone in a community meditation all at the Marmora Community Centre. I am really excited to be announcing that the week of March 01st – 08th is being officially declared International Women’s Week in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake! Specials, displays, demonstrations, workshops and more will be going on all week and ending with Women in Wellness! Be sure to follow this event’s website for more details.
Mindful Journey invites everyone to come and participate in this growing event where we honour our women and the healing feminine energy. Men, women and children are encouraged to submit a short story or poem that they feel tells about an event, experience involving being a woman or a special woman in their lives.

This year’s theme, “The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone…Make it Happen!”
How it all got started…..
In June of 2010, I was fortunate enough to attend the final weekend of Grail Lady Faire (it’s first year). While there I listened to a speaker who was talking about International Women’s Day and was encouraging communities to do something in commemoration of its 100th Anniversary March 8th, 2011. Well, that got me thinking and investigating this event. Here I was, 53, and I had never heard of this before! Upon my return home I started asking women in my hometown or when I was speaking in other areas if anyone knew about this very special day and to my dismay quickly came to realize I was not alone. This made me wonder why we were never taught about the Famous Five who changed the course of women’s rights in this country? Then I started thinking about what it was like for myself as a young girl entering the workforce, the comments that had been made and the small demonstrations I had taken part in when in high school and the controversy when then Prime Minister Trudeau brought in equal pay for equal work. Heck, I had lived through half of those 100 years and been part of the change.
March 08, 2011, the members of Healing Circle Meditation Class supported my decision to do something in the community to commemorate this very special 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day. With the support of the village, we held a community healing meditation at the town hall. People brought in their photos of women who had influenced them or lit a candle in memory of these women. The next year I felt it was going to grow so again, with the support of the village I was granted use of the community centre where 10 “women in business” set up displays of their services for guests to browse prior to and after the meditation. Mindful Journey then invited people to write a short story about a woman or women who had influenced them and had these stories on display. Many door prizes were drawn.
The next two years saw the event grow to 21 vendors – no room for more -and thus the Women in Wellness Event was born.
Here is a glimpse of last year’s event.
