When people realize I am an ordained Minister they will often ask me what denominational I represent, expecting for the most part I will be some protestant sect. Since Metaphysical was only recognized as a religion by the Ontario Government in February of last year, it is no surprise that people are not familiar with this term, never mind what it represents. Some simply shrug, others nod in a knowingly fashion while others will ask questions either to sincerely learn more or to find ways to find fault. Doesn’t matter to me as I am okay with all of that because I speak honestly and what is true to me when I answer.
I thought it would be fun to answer the most commonly asked questions in the following skit which will include things I have been asked so far. I am more than certain when Rev. Rita was working to convince the Ontario Government to make Metaphysical a religion she had these and many more questions to answer! Congratulations and a huge thank you to her for making this possible.
Inquiring Mind meets Rev and the conversation goes like this:
IM – I hear you are a Reverend. What church do you represent?
Rev – I am an ordained Metaphysical Minister.
IM – So you are not a real minister then.
Rev – well, yes I am. I am ordained through the Bancroft Centre for Awakening Spiritual Growth and Metaphysical has been registered in the province of Ontario as a recognized religion since Feb. 2015.
IM – Where is your church?
Rev – Wherever I am. It is my purpose to hold sacred space wherever I go and with whomever I am near. However I do hold classes every week in my home.
IM – Oh, so you really don’t have a church.
Rev- ok, Mindful Journey is the name of my church and it is located in my home or like I said wherever I facilitate a workshop or gathering. Pastors in Universities, hospitals, missions and penitentiaries for example do not have a brick and mortar building but are still ministers of a religion.
IM – So you have services every Sunday?
Rev- No, actually our day to come together is on Tuesday nights.
IM – You consider Tuesday a holy day?
Rev- Actually I consider every day a holy and sacred day. Tues just happens to be the night we can all meet.
IM – What religion are you? Are you Christian, Buddhist, Hindu what? I don’t get what you believe in.
REV- The religion as you call it is Metaphysical. We believe in nothing and everything, accept everyone’s faith yet bind to no one faith.
IM – That doesn’t make any sense. How can you believe in nothing and something at the same time? If you are Metaphysical how can you then turn around and accept say Hindu for example?
Rev –With Metaphysical it is a lifestyle and a way of being and growing spiritually based on love and compassion with respect for other people’s beliefs. So it isn’t so much what we believe or don’t accept but rather embracing all and taking from that what is true to us at this moment in time.
IM – My head is spinning. Let me see if I have this straight. If I am a Roman Catholic I could also be a Metaphysical ?
Rev- Not really but if you were Metaphysical you could also be Roman Catholic. Metaphysical means to have respect and acceptance of all faiths, believing everyone is on their own personal spiritual journey to discover the God of their understanding. In most religions, such as Roman Catholic, there is a set of rules or dogma that followers are to adhere to in order to “belong” to the tribe. Most do not allow for you to be anything else outside of that tribe and if you do then you are not a member.
IM – so what does someone have to do to be a member of your church?
Rev- Nothing and everything.
IM – There you go again with your nothing and everything.
Rev - First of all we do not have members but rather fellow beings of light experiencing the human form coming together to talk, learn, meditate and grow. In my so called church, all I ask is that everyone comes with an open heart and mind to discover spirituality in their lives. My desire is that all will learn to be respectful of the fact others are on their own journey and we are all at various phases of our evolution. So you see, we come with nothing, no expectations, requirements or judgment but we gain everything as we create a place of love and compassion where we can talk about matters of the heart and soul.
IM – But what are your beliefs? Do you perform rituals?
Rev – Yes and no. Again, it depends on the person’s personal level of belief and what he or she feels true to them at this moment in time. What I feel comfortable doing or the way I choose to minister can be very different from another Metaphysical Minister. I like to explore various ways of creating a sacred space, share what others have learned and going by my intuition to lead a group. After all, how can any one group of people or person claim to have all the 100% truth? Truth comes from asking questions then seeking the answers.
IM – But isn’t the religion suppose to answer the questions?
Rev - Often the dogma implies that it does but that is the difference with Metaphysical. We keep asking questions to evolve and learn even more. It is the knowing that once one question is answered it only serves to close one door and open another – another question and so on it goes.
IM – Well are people expected to evolve? Are they required to take any courses or anything?
Rev- Some come for just a short while then others for a long time. Some learn then teach, some move on to other things but we all share and learn from one another’s experiences. That is loving without judgment and living with compassion. If we can take away from our gatherings these two things I believe we will have learned and evolved a great deal. Courses are available and are very helpful I deepening one’s understanding and spiritual growth but ultimately how successful the learning is will depend on how open the individual is to receive.
IM – Where does God fit into all of this or do you believe in God?
Rev- I choose to refer to this as the Divine, Spirit or Source because I have found that there is no name great enough to place upon this Pure Love and Source of our being. To name this would be to close its wonder off and pretend to claim it like a prize. To answer your question, Spirit is what brings it all together so I do believe in this force. Spirit is within us, around us and in the vastness of the Universe…let me rephrase that. Spirit IS us, Is everything and nothing all at the same time…the reality we have created and the potentially that is waiting to be born is within Spirit and within us since we contain Spirit.
IM- What is our soul then?
Rev- If you are looking for the exact science to this I cannot tell you nor would I pretend to know the exact undying truth to this question. However for me at this moment in time through what I have personally experienced or by what my students, clients and fellow Metaphysical Ministers have talked about this is what I believe. Everything on this earth and in the universe is energy; we are no different. Consciousness is energy, our physical body is comprised of energy, and every cell of our body is evidence of vibrating living matter. As energy our true self, our soul or Higher Self as it is sometimes called, cannot die but rather we are transformed into spirit when our physical body dies. We then connect with other light beings, as universal consciousness we exchange life experiences and knowledge gained. At some point we may decide to return to earth or perhaps even other dimensions to learn even more. Every time we evolve whether while we are still on earth or have crossed over our frequency changes.
IM – So people coming to your classes or any Metaphysical gathering would have to believe this soul stuff and concept of God?
Rev- No, just show respect for those who do. Remember we are all on a journey of spiritual discovery. My truth may be shared by others or totally turned down and in those cases I usually hear about it right away. I feel I am to be a stepping stone for others, sort of breaking the trail. Not that I have all the answers but I have found a few and I am still searching and imagine as long as I have breath will be seeking.
IM- Well let me see if I can take this from the top then. Metaphysics is a recognized religion in Ontario as of Feb 2015.
Rev- Correct. As such Rev. Rita of Bancroft Centre for Awakening Spiritual Growth has authority to ordain Metaphysical Ministers. That is for lack of a better word the name of the church, that I officially belong to. My centre, Mindful Journey, is a division of that church.
IM – You belong to that but yet there really is no membership needed for people who want to attend your classes, use your services or workshops.
Rev – Yes, you are getting it, not so hard right?
IM – I don’t k now about that. So you don’t have to have a physical location although some do and some don’t.
Rev- As I stated I feel my purpose is to hold a Sacred Space wherever I am, so that is nowhere and every where all at the same time. Metaphysical is a way of being and living so it is basically wherever I am.
IM – Speaking of nowhere and everywhere, your beliefs are nothing and everything, but all based on something which is love and compassion.
Rev – That is right as well as non judgment so that we realize everyone, including ourselves are doing the best we can at this moment in time. Forgiveness and gratitude are a huge factor as well in personal growth and raising our own vibration and that of those around us.
IM – You can be Metaphysical and some other religions but you cannot be Religious and be Metaphysical.
Rev- That is right. Everyone is welcome because we have no dogma therefore embracing all religions whereby religions have dogma and require members to follow only their belief system. Especially some of theChristian religions would consider all I do and believe as antichrist or devils work. Too bad since it is the same lessons taught in the Bible just different terminology.
IM – Your weekly classes are like a church service only you welcome people to discuss things then everyone joins in meditation.
Rev – Yes and again without judgment but with love and compassion. This time is sacred time and is respected as such.
IM – I think I am getting a head ache from all this everything, nothing, everywhere and no whereeveryone and no one, something stuff.
Rev- Perfect! You are well on your way to understanding Metaphysical philosophy then. Don’t be afraid to ask questions then even braver to be open to the answers. This is just the tip of the iceberg. We didn’t even begin to talk about consciousness, spirit guides, intuition and synchronicities.
IM – This was enough for now. I need a nap or should I say I need to meditate?
Rev- Now you got it!
