What Season are You In?

Even through global warming, the earth continues to turn and the seasons flow effortlessly from one to the other. Whether we realize it consciously or not, we too flow from one season of our lives into another, much like the world around us. After all, we are the same energy and we naturally move with the rhythms of the universe. When we try to change this dance we find ourselves going out of step in ways of stress, disease, emotional and spiritual upheaval.

So, what spiritual season are you in now? Let’s look at the four seasons and see if you can relate to any of them at this time in your life. Beginning in the spring we are reminded of rebirth and creation. Flowers and plants of every kind begin to emerge. New baby animals and birds are born. The earth brings forth a new beginning, another chance at life. This is a time when we plan our year, plant our gardens prepare our yards and homes for the warmer months ahead. So to in our spiritual lives. We come to this earth as a chance at a new beginning, an opportunity to learn new lessons, plan our life, plant the seeds of our future, and to think about what we wish to manifest in our lives. There is the energy and the enthusiasm of youth. In this season we are all full of hope and dreams. In the spring of our spiritual lives we are eager to learn all we can about ourselves, our connection with the Universe and with the Divine and look forward to the journey to get there. The search begins.

Then we enter summer. Here we find the seeds we planted in the spring beginning to emerge and grow. We also notice a few weeds in our garden. Now we need to sort things out; discarding what we do not need and nurturing what we plan on harvesting. It is during this time of maturing that we will notice not all things go as we originally planned but by accepting that the Universe is there to help us and allowing ourselves to follow its lead, we come to the realization that our garden will bear many fruits. As the earth reveals all its colour and fullness of life, we use all our senses to breathe, see, hear, taste and feel it all. By doing so, and giving thanks for this opportunity, we find our intuition is increasing. We carry warmth inside ourselves now…increasing in our own confidence and acceptance of self and others. The fast pace of spring is slowing as we realize we need to take time to discover we are the ones who choose our own destiny and look for the opportunities to take us there.

Oh the beauty of autumn! Especially in Canada where we have the colourful leaves everywhere we look. It is like the earth has put on a glorious robe to show off her beauty. This is the confidence that comes with maturity…knowing who you are and understanding your place in the world. Fall is when we begin the harvest of the fruits of our labour. So it is with our spiritual maturity. We have begun the journey inward and found gratitude for our many blessings. Through thankfulness we know we will receive even more in our lives. The seeds we planted in the spring are now manifesting in our lives. By being patient throughout the summer and nurturing our garden, we now see how the Universe has sorted out all the details for us. Now we need to be willing to accept what is rightfully ours with a thankful heart and spirit. We also learn in this season to share with others so they too will discover their lessons. Some of our summer heat is cooling but not gone. Rather we are more in balance with our mind, body and spirit. We are at a time when we realize we need to prepare for a deeper and longer inward reflection that will come with winter.

What are the personality traits the winter season? Well, the first that comes to mind is cold. This is not a negative feature to have but rather one of self discovery and reflection. What is nicer on a cold winter’s night than to curl up with a warm blanket, cup of tea and read a book? Winter provides us with silence as all the animals and most birds have gone away or into the woods. The snow creates a blanket of softness and purification on the earth. How beautiful everything looks after a snowfall: fresh and clean.

So it is with our spiritual level in the winter of our lives. We find ourselves asking for the Divine to surround us like a warm, cozy blanket for security and love while we mediate in order to bring that feeling inward. The silence of the earth reminds us to travel on a personal journey deep inside of ourselves and reflect upon the past year. What seeds did we plant? Did we nurture them, remove the weeds in our life, and accept the opportunities? Were we able to harvest our many blessings with a thankful and loving heart? Did we share with others? During the winter months we also ask and accept purification of mind, body and spirit by letting go of grievances and regrets: forgiving and being forgiven. We reflect on the past seasons and silently make plans for the next change and another chance – the coming of spring.

There may be times we may try to remain in a season, working against the universe and its wisdom. What a fruitless endeavor this is! We are here to learn and evolve. This will only occur if we open ourselves up to accept the opportunities presented to us and use them with full and positive intention for the higher good of all. We don’t need to fully understand the “why” in every situation, simply to believe there is meaning in all that we do.

So what season are you in? Are you ready and planning on moving ahead? If you feel stuck, look around you for classes, groups, and workshops to help you get in the groove and get going! You have the power within yourself to make changes in your life. What are you waiting for? The Universe is ready any time you are so jump on board and go for the ride of your life.
